Why maps help, and when a list is better
Mind maps encode relationships, and facts with relationships are easier to recall than facts floating alone. They're strongest for topics with structure: causes and effects, systems, arguments. They're the wrong tool for sequences and pure memorisation, where a numbered list or flashcards do better. Use the map to understand the shape of a topic, then flashcards to nail the details.
